Frequently Asked Questions

Compact Access 2000?
Version 1.3.2 has been updated to include support for Access 2000 databases.  These databases will  appear as version 4.0 in the log.

Help Doesn't Work?
Nothing happens when I press PF1 or the help button?
The help files are distributed only as HTML files.  You will need an internet browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer to be installed on the same PC as Access Maintainer.  Only recent versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape have been tested to work with Access Maintainer.
The help files can be accessed at c:\program files\access maintainer\help\contents.htm (or directory chosen for the installation).

Year 2000 Compliant?
Access Maintainer has been fully tested to ensure that it will continue to schedule into the year 2000. Please note that the only date processing that is specifically written for this application is related to the scheduling of compaction jobs. There are no data operations on actual Access database files. This application relies completely on the Database Management Engine that is supplied by Microsoft Access for its repair and compact functionality, therefore you should refer to Microsoft's Y2k statements regarding Microsoft Access.

Will it Repair Access97 databases?
Yes. The "Repair (v2.x)" option refers to the ability to force Access Maintainer to repair all version 2 databases no matter whether they are corrupt or not. This is recommended by Microsoft before doing a compaction to ensure that the compaction would not cause further errors. (see references) Access 97 (jet v3.x) databases do not require a repair before each compact. Access Maintainer will only repair one of these databases if it receives an error indicating that the database should be repaired.

Will it Repair a database that Access will not?
No, Access Maintainer utilizes Microsoft Access's database management engine to compact ant repair the databases. It should
not operate any differently than if the Compact or Repair option was selected from the Microsoft Access menu.

What is JET?
