Compact Microsoft Accessâ databases on a scheduled basis. For Windows 95 / 98 / NTâ. |
|
Access Maintainer Version 1.2.0 Limitations ? Lite. The free "Lite" version available at this site for download does not include scheduling or windows-startup.(all other compact and logging operations are complete and functional). You may wish to use scheduling to automatically compact all you databases over night or at a given time when nobody is using them. The startup option will ensure that Access Maintainer is loaded with Windows so that it can complete it's scheduled tasks. Password. Password protected databases can not be compacted by Access Maintainer. Backup. The compact process explictly makes a new copy of your database to compact into. It is not until the compact operation has completed successfully that the original database is overwritten. If this is successful then the temporary compacted file can be removed. For this reason we did not see the value in making a third copy of the database. However if you are using this utility on your mission critical production database we suggest that you use it in conjunction with your existing backup procedures. Scheduling a compaction after the backup job would be advisable. Network Capabilities. This utility has been developed and tested on an NT LAN network with additional testing on a Novell network. Some configurations and security controls may limit its use on specific file systems. Search Limitation. Currently all access databases files found in the specified search path are compacted. There is no way of marking some files as "not to be processed". The only thing we can suggest at the moment is to make you search paths specific ie c:\msaccess\mysystem\mydbs rather than just C:\. This will ensure that files in other directory paths are not found. We urge you to let us know how important this requirement is (and others) by emailing suggestions. |
